I own quite a few of Thomann's own cases and I am extremely pleased with the quality they deliver. The 5U Live 40 is no exception. The materials are of high quality and the construction is sturdy and adamant. All hinges, bolts, and latches settle in nicely and lock in perfectly. Even though it's for 'live use' by its name, I use it as a studio rack, sitting on a stand. This is because I move around quite a bit and I also like the aesthetics of portable racks a lot more. There's that 'industrial' look to them which I like a lot. My equipment fits into the rack nicely and I can easily lock in the covers and carry it with me anywhere. They provide you with rack screws which is a nice add-on. The rack does its job nicely and I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I can see many years of good use to come for this box. It might even outlive me... This really feels like a quality product.
ive had this 6 years now and its doing great. very sturdy and reliable, nothing has loosened/cracked/broken etc, the butterfly latches are very solid.
the wood used feels pretty thin but its been tested in the back of vans filled with gear and the only damage ive gotten is a few scratches and some light impressions in the surface.
the handles arent the most comfortable but never really been an issue even with heavy amps installed in it. thats about the only negative thing i can think of really about this case.
I've been using this rack for more than 6 years now and I had no issues whatsoever. All the latches, butterflies, bolts are still holding as they should. The case has been through hell but no cracks or any major damages. It was this case that made me trust into Thon products and for sure I got more.
I wanted something durable for my rack setup and I bought the Live rack. The most sturdy of all! It's quite heavy too. One thing though: I would have been better for me if it had rails on both sides so I could attach gear on the back. Other than that, highly recommended!
