BRIDDGE SADDLES that come with your Stratocaster or Telecaster are simple mild steel affairs whose parts ? saddles, screws and spring ? are quite prone to tarnishing and corrosion (you may not notice this if they are hidden under a bridge cover. Although you can use the screws to adjust intonation you can?t adjust string height. And because they are made of a similar material to the strings themselves they exert high friction on the strings which cannot therefore slide smoothly over them when you are trying to tune really accurately.
GRAPH TECH PS8001-00 saddles address and solve all these problems successfully and are as such really good value for money if you want to have a guitar with an exact and convenient playable setup and great tuning accuracy. Each individual saddle has string height adjustment via two vertical screws and the saddle itself is made from a low friction material that allows the string to slide rather than to ?snatch? across thus making for fluid and precise tuning adjustment.
PROS: Intonation and string height adjustment, low friction saddles for accurate tuning
CONS: You might easily miss the Allen key that is underneath the saddles in the plastic bubble and it doesn?t have any means of looping onto a keyring so it?s difficult to store and remember where you put it!
NB: Don?t lose the springs, they are an essential part of the mechanism. And don?t lose the tiny Allen key supplied to adjust string height!
I replaced the stock saddles on American Telecaster, and I really like the result. It seems theres more sustain, and the tone is a bit more clear sounding.
before the graph tech my US strat used to break strings in almost every live !!!!!!!
i have to break string about 10 years and now i change strings not so often ...!!! GREAT STUFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
