Despite not being the best sounding reeds, this fantastic box allows the sax player to try out all the regular reed strengths and decide for himself the best reed for each occasion. Good for the price, tending that the purpose of the box is to offer a broad variety of reeds with various strength values.
Look no further, for a fraction of the price of buying one reed of each from a reputable brand just to toss away a few expensive good reeds that don't sound the way you want because of it's strength, try picking up one of these and see the best strength value for you and your setup. They might not be the best sounding reeds but they will do the job and might get you out of a tight spot as a reserve source of reeds.
All of the reeds played right out of the box. None were discarded.
I purchased the sample box as this would give me a variety of strengths to try and see which one was best suited to my playing style. I normally use a Rico 2 or 2.5. As always the delivery from Thomann was quick. I immediately opened the box and tried a 2..... The sound I got was dull and lifeless. so I tried a 2.5 and then a 1.5. Unfortunately, they all gave the same results. I was really disappointed as a I thought at least one reed would have shown some life.
Maybe I have received a dud box, its just seems odd that not one of the reeds is playable. Usually, in every box you usually get a couple that just cant't be played. But with Thomann their reeds are not on par with the likes of Rico Reeds or even come close to them.
