Keep it simple

The sound of tubes is one the most hyped aspects of guitar sound. Emulation products are so good one might wonder if tubes are more often emulated than used as the real thing. From a convenience point of view tubes often come in huge not-so-handy amp cabinets. Not that tubes do not come in pedals but it is often with a substantial price tag and doubts about the tubes actual role in an otherwise transistorized signal chain.
In clear contrast to this TC has cast the Tube Pilot as a "keep it simple" product. You can basically put your signal through a real tube, decide how hard you will drive the tube into saturation and then adjust the output volume. That's it. How does it sound then ? This is of course a matter of taste, but feeding a humbuckered tele signal into the pedal I think it is quite transparent both as a direct signal and fed into a conventional guitar amp. So basically anything you wish to give a tube flavour could be fed through this box. Technical note: Pedal has a 30 sec warm up time and consumes 400 mA, so make sure your power supply is to this. Switching in the pedal happens not on the down stomp but when you lift your foot from the switch. Weird choice but not a problem in my book.

Good sounding Overdrive

This really simple pedal does what a overdrive needs to do. It delivers great sustain and comes in a solid box. I have used the pedal as a amp booster and to add extra saturation during solos.
One thing I was surprised over is that this pedal is a lot bigger than my other pedals - This is however not at CON for me, as long as you keep it in mind when buying this product.

This overdrive pedal is surprisingly good for its price!

It has a real tube inside for that tube amp overdrive sound!
Can really recommend this to anyone on a budget who needs a good pedal!

This is NOT a copy of the Butler, only based on the design. With that said, it is an amazing sounding heavy overdrive. Just don't expect any clean sounds with soft "on the edge of breakup" from it. Starved plate, like most of the actually tube driven pedals, you can honestly find the same sound in most high gain diode clipping overdrives that don't need 400 mA power supply. I still love it for what it is. Put it in front of a dirty tube amp ;)

P.S.: don't forget to cut the power to it after use, or it's going to keep heating the tube (and the casing). The foot-switch only engages the bypass.
