Very expensive...but also very effective!
Mikie Benji 30.01.2025
The obvious negative here is the asking price. Whichever way you cut it, there is no getting around the fact that this is a seriously overpriced item. That said, the quality of the whole thing is premium (the least one would expect at this silly price point)
I have one other negative, and that is that I really am not a fan of the unique mounting that this gooseneck has. It mounts directly onto the mic screw, which 1) is a real nuisance to have to dismount the mic everytime you need to move this, or if you just want to use this with a different microphone instead. Of course this won't be much of an issue if you plan to only ever use this in a fixed installation setup. 2) I cannot see how this mounting can be efficient in terms of noise transmission from the mic stand or mount. However, the manufacturers do give you the option of two other mounting options - one that has a simple adapter cone that attaches onto the filter ring to be placed on an independent stand/mount of its own (ie not the stand the mic is on); the other option is for a special attachment to clip on to a microphone's spider housing. Theoretically these options are always good to have, however both these options add significantly to the already overpriced cost.
As far as the positives are concerned, I have to say I am quite surprised at how well the thing actually works for what it's made to do. Early days for me, but my first impressions are that this product seems really excellent and very efficient in eliminating plosives AND some other undesirable artifacts. In my experimenting so far, I am amazed that somehow I don't need to use as many plugIns to achieve the desired sound- and that is always a good thing, all round.
For what its worth, it looks decent too.
So it seems to be a case of extremes. The item is definitely extremely expensive, costing many, many times more the materials could possibly cost to manufacture. It is also extremely effective at what it does. Decision time!
