Jakob Winter JW 51395 NB Tenor Sax Case

I semi-recently bought an old Yamaha YTS 23, and I could tell it was mistreated and the old case smelled and so on, so I decided to buy this case. The idea was that with the puch on the front I can even go to school with a couple of notebooks and play sax right before/after.

I will go in order by things I noticed coming out of the box. The front pockets were nice, exactly what I wanted, but when opening the case I noticed the latches are strange and hard to close. Compared to normal briefcase style metal and rigid, these were plastic and you can't see exactly when they are locked and not only closed. The handle is nice, like on an airport suitcase. The shoulder straps are okay, i like how it has metal clips, there are a bit narrow, but I am quite small so they are fine for me. The real problems start on the inside:
If you look at the description and the images you can see one spot where "Accessory compartment for neck and mouthpiece" and I thought thought that you just keep the mouthpiece on the neck to fit in that right pocket, but It's impossible, even tho very flimsy and moving around with neck on it's own. The right pocket with the cover seems so unnecessarily made. There isnt enough space for 2 boxes of 5pc reeds, my swabs, my neck strap and my mouthpiece with the cap and ligature on. And lets not even think about putting my Hercules stand in, no chance at all unless i remove everything else and break the cover, since for no reason there seems to be more space on the top of the case, but it isnt used, because of the cover. I thought it would be deeper, since it doesn't need as much padding as the saxophone. Another small things is, the soft material isnt very well glued to the harder material in the case, or just flimsy, because there isn't enough of this blue material.

In conclusion: Not great for gigging, no space for microphone, stands, or stuff like that, but alright for practicing students. For the price and make, I expected more.

Ich habe mir den Koffer zugelegt, um mein Sax auch auf dem Rücken transportieren zu können und zugleich ein stabiles, zuverlässiges Case zu haben.

-Positiv zu bewerten ist das Design, die Notentasche, und der äußere Bezug. Der Haupttragegriff scheint auch sehr stabil zu sein.

-Enttäuschend ist allerdings die teilweise mangelhafte Verarbeitung des Baumwollsamtbezugs und der Verschluss des Koffers. Wie ich erfahren habe, gibt es jetzt keinen silbernen Reißverschluss und auch keine Metallschieber mehr. Diese sind nun aus Plastik, relativ instabil und schreien danach irgendwann zu brechen. Diese Entscheidung kann ich leider nicht verstehen. Mein alter Koffer von Winter hat diese Metallschieber noch und diese halten seit mehr als 10 Jahren perfekt.
Die Rückengarnitur, weswegen ich mir den Koffer kaufte ist nicht sonderlich bequem. Die zentrale Befestigung beider Träger drückt nach einer Zeit ziemlich schmerzhaft in den Rücken. Also nichts für längere Transporte auf dem Rücken.

Fazit: Für diese Marke und diesen Preis hätte ich etwas mehr erwartet. Vielleicht den Koffer direkt vor Ort testen und evtl. Produktionsfehler im vorhinein sehen.

Habe mich für diesen Koffer entschieden, weil er im Prinzip genau dem Originalkoffer von Keilwerth entspricht, der beim Kauf des Instruments dabei war und mich fast 11 Jahre gut begleitet hat. Die zusätzliche Tasche ist superpraktisch, da man darin die Noten für Konzerte unterbringen kann und somit die Hände frei hat. Das Zubehörfach ist für mich wg. dem vielen Kleinkram, den man halt so braucht, unverzichtbar. So habe ich das immer dabei, ohne eine zusätzliche Tasche zu benötigen. Haltbarkeit des Materials und insbesondere der Gurtschlösser wird sich weisen, zumindest ist der Eindruck stabil und robust. Das geringe Eigengewicht ist ebenfalls ein wichtiger Punkt.
