I wouldn't recommend it for absolute beginners, but more for those in between beginner to intermediate and anyone else above. This is NOT a guitar lesson book.
It's got really helpful tips for furthering your music knowledge and skill by using a more practical approach (the experiential) with lots of helpful tips to use in improvisation and exploration and presented in a legible and creative format.
Lastly, this is Vai's system, and if you're a fan, you'll already be more motivated to read and absorb whatever you can from the book!
I have tried learning music theory for some time and tried a couple of other books. But, after a while I gave up. The Vaideology on the other hand is a book that I gladly return to. It is well written, it has large pages and letters. The fact that it is written by my favorite guitarist also helps! As for the content, it covers a great deal of music theory for guitarists. I am convinced I will learn everything I need from this book.
this book is A to Z guitar learning.
it is a guide to the ways of the Vai method which shows a bit of all and then some more.
it does not replace years of practice or a teacher but it sure enlightens your path.
