I own this guitar for appr. one month now. I’ve owned a Gibson ES -355 Memphis 2016 with a richlite fretboard. I never could get friends with that guitar. Tuning difficulties and poor craftsmanship made me selling this guitar. I play guitar for more than 40 years.
So it’s absolutely amazing that this Guild stands out to the Gibson in quality en workmanship at more than half of the price. The looks and feel of Starfire VI in Snowcrest White are stunning. The aged binding with the off-white painting gives the guitar its distinctive appearance. Although I have to mention that imo Snowcrest White is the only right colour for this guitar. ( Black would also do but that is not an available colour in this model) .Right out of the box the setup was not perfect. I had to file the nut and the bridge saddle at the D-string because of the well known ping while tuning the guitar. In contrast to the Gibson it’s amazing how good the Starfire stays in tune, even with use of the Bigsby!
The sound of the guitar with the LB-1 humbuckers is difficult to compare. Typical Guild I would say. Not Gretsch, not Gibson but a sound of it’s own and with the typical semi-hollow body sound. Playability is excellent. A very versatile guitar because of the LB-1’s and the master volume knob.
The Starfire VI has a history of its own. This new Starfire VI is a great rendition and again; absolutely stunning to play and look at!
