I always love the clean sound of DPA mics. Especially 4099 for its convenience and portability. Great on any instrument and great for tiny space recording. If you have a bunch of these, you no longer need to worry about carrying tons of gears for your gigs. Transportation is a cost too.
Bought this mic for my fiddle and it's great! Before, to mic up my fiddle I used a skyinbow pickup that also goes through effects pedals, which worked fine but I had some issues with sound quality.
Now I use the DPA mic alongside the skyinbow pick up and it sounds great. It provides a real clarity to the sound and has really made a difference.
I know the mics are pricy but I would say worth every penny. Have been using it for about 4/5 months now and no problems at all.
Great microphone, amazing in all aspects.
Highly recommended and such an improvement over violin pickups.
I have used this microphone for years and it sounds amazing plug and play.
Only negatives:
The nano XLR cable (technically called a Microdot Cable) is susceptible to braking with heavy usage. After a year of nearly everyday use, I broke the original cable.
The microphone is susceptible to feedback when situated on a small stage with a monitor very close etc. This can be avoided easily but it is more of an issue than with your standard SM58 etc. This is to be expected with a microphone of this type and it is rarely an issue.
