I installed this on my 16" Pearl Midtown bass drum and i was delighted with the results.
Firstly, It impacted positively on the sound of my bass drum. It gave a punchier sound as it allowed the mic to go closer to the head.
Secondly, it added to the aesthetic of my drum kit as it was silver like my hardware.
I would like if the instructions were clearer about application. Th company want you to also purchase a head cutter but i used a craft knife and had no problems although I wondered would the cut be cleaner with their cutting tool.
I would highly recommend this product. simple but effective!
I have to admit, I was very disappointed. I already had been using a O's 4" Chrome round HC4 for some time on one of my bass drums with no trouble. But this time the outer part of the ring (chrome colored) got torn of by the live mic at the first gig I used it on. And that even though I followed the instructions to apply it on the head very carefully. But I might try it one more time because I didn't have any problems with the first ring. But for now the inner part of the ring (the counter ring to the outer chrome one) probaly will do the job of protecting the edges of the whole in the resohead. But it doesn't look as nice, of course.
Big enough to get your hand in to adjust any internal damping of your bass drum or pop a mic in, and looks great. Do read and follow the instructions though!
