I bought this guitar for its unusual construction of acacia wood......classical guitars are made from spruce or cedar right? I have to say it's a very interesting guitar. Almost like a hybrid being somewhere between the sound of a classical guitar and a steel strung acoustic.....most unusual in my opinion. Cosmetics, again very nicely constructed with what Thomann state as an open pore finish or transparent lacquer finish. It gives the guitar a nice old woody appearance. I like it :-) Sound, interesting....I'm sure the strings bring out a nice brightness to the earthy tone. I use this guitar for contemporary tunes but it's equally at home playing Fernando Sor or Carcassi. For me this guitar is a keeper. It ticks a number of boxes and again I'm amazed Thomann can make such wonderful instruments at such good prices!
Bought this instrument out of curiosity due the different wood used.
However, this instrument turned out to be very disappointing. It's very light, weights less than 1kg for sure, it feels cheap and the wood feels like it's made out of cardboard.
Soundwise, the sound is very dry and you cannot make any type of bends due the heavy noise that the fretboard does.
Nevertheless I want to thank Thomann's customer service for letting me return this product. I've ordered a Höfner 504 instead and I'm very happy with it.
The action was too low resulting in buzz from many frets for the thicker strings.
Adding a 1 mm shim under the saddle raised the low E to 2.75 mm at 12th fret and now only the low E buzzes slightly from a couple of frets. I may put a slighly thicker shim there still if it starts to bother me.
Otherwise the guitar is perfect.
The nut is cut correctly so that notes on the first fret are in tune. Intonation is good, too. 12th fret notes are within 0-3 cents, closer than I can measure reliably.
No fret buzz anywhere except for a couple of frets for the low E due to still low action for a classical guitar. Flamenco style now, I guess.
No fret sprout. Flawless cosmetics. Tone and sound are nice to my ears, no surprises there.
The Acacia wood is beautifully rustic and romantic. I love the knots on the top and back.
This guitar is well and lovingly made. A worthwhile purchase.
