I'm a guy who loves recording live drums. I really and I mean REEEAAALLLY don't like samples. I could argue all day about how much I dislike them, but there comes a time in which anyone might need a program like this. I was tasked with composing a piece of music and due to having surgery in places I won't mention, I could play drums and had to resort to samples. In the few short days of using this program, I really started appreciating the sound quality of the sampled drums and how much of an effort Slate have gone to make this feel at least somewhat real.
If you really want to make music but have no other means to get good sounding drums, buy this. But I urge you all not to let programmed drums be your endgame.
I use SSD5 for a while now in addition to Studio Drummer, but it was instantly a jump ahead for my drum edits. It sounds very good out of the box and is easy to use. Only the key mapping presets did not work correctly for me and I had a little manual work to do, so that I was able to switch seamlessly between different products. I use SSD5 for tracks where I need a more realistic drum sound vs Studio Drummer (for example) for more "mathematical" tracks and styles like very technical metal or djent-like genres. I had no performance issues, even on the road it works fine with a MacBook Pro from 2020. Five stars, great product!
Cons
I found a lot of problems trying to download and authorise this product, a big downside
I found problems with using samples in DAW
Pros
The sounds are of great quality and the mixing ability is great
