These pickups were installed in a Gibson Les Paul 2003 guitar which had a set of Burstbuckers level 1 and 2.
The guitar is mainly used for heavy rock/ metal .
Concerning the sound , the output of the SDs is higher with beefier distortion and more definition in this kind of music.
This high distortion comes in a passive package so batteries are not needed. It was the first time with the current band that the consensus was that the sound was clear and cutting through the mix effortlessly.
The pickups have several wiring options and a leaflet with instructions for several configurations.
Visually they have upgraded the guitar being sleek black, but this is a minor issue.
I would definitely propose these pickups for anyone searching a heavy sound
Installed this set into an Ibanez RG570, got exactly the heavy beef sound I've been looking for! This thing now growls! High output and lots of bass and mids, while retaining clarity. I like to turn up mids and treble on the amp a bit to get a balanced tone. With coil splitting, neck pickup has an interesting straty-kind of tone too. Easy to install, and SD website has tons of wiring diagrams which are easy to find and read (unlike DiMarzio). And they also look killer!
I got these after wanting them for years at this stage.
They pump out some serious sound. Rock Metal and Punk are the styles I like to play and these work so well for all.
Honestly, they'll blow your balls off for the price. And they're not even active so no need to worry about battery life.
I loved back in the day when Tom Delong had a sig guitar with the single Invader in the bridge that's my first memory of them. Now look at Synyster gates work with A7X that's all pumped through the invaders, Buy em now, thank me later!
