I do some video work and a lot of podcasting. The NTG2 was a perfect addition to my setup.
I spent a lot of time reading reviews of shotgun mics before I started work on my podcast. Everywhere I looked it seemed the sennheiser MKE600 was the mic to get. So I got one and was disappointed by its' performance in the field. In the studio it is great...
And although I'd read some fairly poor reviews of the NTG 2, that's the one I went for and I am happy I did. Inside the blimp kit it has been with me on a few long trips, hooked up to any field recorder that delivers 48v phantom it is brilliant.
An affordable tool that does what it needs to.

Clean sound
Anonym 11.05.2016
I have two of these and have used them to record concerts and theater plays. I have used the in an x-y setup straight into a Tascam portable recorder.
They are stable and well build. The sound is clean and full for recording rooms. Not so well when I tried recording an acoustic guitar (but maybe more experimentation is needed).
The bag that comes with it is not good. The zipper broke instantly :(
Very easy to use. Just pop an AA battery inside, and it'll last weeks without needing a change.
I found this mic to be a little too sensitive when recording outside and you wish to avoid parasite sounds. I didn't find it as directional as I wanted it to be, but it didn't stop me from getting the results I wanted from it.
It sounds clean as hell for inside scenes and it captures transients perfectly. I'd buy it all over again and would recommend it if you need to work on a film project.
Again, a great product from Rode.
Even though its not the top of the line model rode do in terms of shotgun microphones, i was amazed how good this micophone is.
Paired with the zoom h6, and a rode boom pole this is great for audio recording. It can pick up even the faintest whipser from where you are aiming while not picking up much sound from elsewhere. I can barely hear any noise floor with the microphone, and the range you can get out of it is amazing. You just have to be careful to not forget you've set it for picking up very quiet sounds and nearly deafen yourself when you make a noise.
Foam cover doesn an okay job at cancelling wind noise but deadcat addition is useful for if you need to use the mic where you have harsh outdoor conditions.
