I chose this tambourine out of the three LP-Versions because I think it has the smoothest, nicest Sound. I still like the sound a lot.
But after a few years of using it (not very much or exceptionally hard) the jingels started cracking. One day I found strange small metal pieces on one of my toms and it kind of scared me; was afraid they might have damaged the bearing edges had I not detected them early enough. Nothing happened but I was and still am disappointed in the short longevity of that tambourine. That is only for the jingles. The plastic part of it and the hardware show no sign of fatigue.
I replaced it with a LP-steel jingle tambourine which sounds different, a little harsher but also nice. I've seen really old specimen of these steel-jingle tambourines and hope mine will last for many years.
Maybe the problem is the dimpling of the brass-jingles which makes the sound nice but also might lessen the stability.
the perforation on the plates gives the fact that over time the plates fall apart from the blows. as a result, we have a tambourine where all the upper plates with perforations have fallen off
I bought this looking to improve my rhythm section, it's a really good instrument, as LP drums know to do, they don't mess up. A sound that is leveled with the rest of my drums (which are quite loud and I usually get a big sound from).
This tambourine has a lovely dark sound to it. Very sturdy and easy to clamp around the kit or on a hi hat stand. Sounds great in both live and recording studio situations. Get one!
