So after a thorough research of the market I was pleased to discover that this Ibanez GRG121DX-WNF (Walnut Finish) was ticking all the boxes for my own guitar preferences:
* Strat type shape and the full body visible instead of featuring an ugly plastic front guard.
* Satin finish because my glossy acoustic shows all my fingerprints
* Black finishing kit because it looks so much classier than silver and cream in my opinion
* Cool looking fret inlays
* Fixed bridge because I'm not particularly interested in a tremelo arm hanging around and adding the uncertainty over tuning stability
It was ideal for my wallet that all the above features come together in the cheapest guitar in the Ibanez natural wood finish range. I considered the more expensive Ibanez RG421 & S521 too.
As I couldn't find one locally to see and play, I took a gamble on Ibanez quality & Thomann's shipping to order this guitar without playing one.
My gamble paid off big time! As soon as I got it out of the box I was blown away by the quality. It looks even better than in the photos and plays as well as guitars which are 3x the price. It blows my mind how much quality and looks (did I mention the rock vibe of the Sharktooth fretboard inlays?) you get for your money with this guitar!
I've been playing guitar for over two years now and this was my first electrical guitar. I still don't regret it. I got to compare it with other electrical guitars in a higher price range (about ~500 euros) and to be honest, even though you can hear a difference it still tries to keep its head up.
I still use this one quite a lot and love the sound that it makes.
I use it for Lo-fi, Ambient and Metal and it works perfectly for these genres (and they differ from each other quite a lot!). One of the BEST purchases you can make in this price range.
Also, the humbuckers work as they should and the design is neat :D.
Music is in my life since more than 15+ years, but I've mostly never owned an electric guitar. I'm more of an Electric-Acoustic , Acoustic person with some other instruments under the belt.
When I saw the whole body is wood and there are no unnecessary plastic guards on it, I knew this is my style. It arrived without any problems thanks to Thomann and when I first held it I knew it was the right choice.
The neck and frets feels amazing to play on and easy, the overall weight distribution is also comfortable and the sound was way better than I expected it to be.
