I changed original hardware on my Iceman which was in very bad shape after 18 years. I decided to switch from original chrome to gold and I decided to go with Gotoh. One of the original anchors needed to be changed, second one was to hard to pull out so I decided to leave it, no need to risk damaging the guitar.
This tailpiece is beautifully done, superb machining and plating. Highly recommended!
One note though: make sure you match the tailpiece with fretboard radius.
I replaced the bridge on my Ibanez semi (replaced it with Gotoh GE103B-T), so I replaced the tailpiece mainly to color match the bridge. Stock bridge and tailpiece started to tarnish after only a month of use. (Luckily, all the other hardware works and looks great)
Same as with the bridge, I reused stock anchors. I was too lazy to pull the old ones out (and also was affraid I might damage the finish)
Gotoh feels more solid than the stock tailpiece, and the workmanship and looks are superb.
I replaced the bridge on my Gibson CLP after 35 years with this Gotoh.Superb quality. I didn't use the screws , only the tailpiece, so i can not tell sth about the srews.
The original stop bar on my 1983 Gibson Explorer was in bad shape already for a while. It was starting to flake. The original turned out to be a mich lighter aluminium tailpiece. I swapped it with this Gotoh over the Schaller because it was cast zinc and that supposedly would enhance sustain. I didn’t notice any difference in sustain yet. Strings do seem to ring a little clearer, but difficult to confirm as I also changed the strings. The quality and finish is what you expect from Gotoh: flawless. When I compare the old and new bridge, I found that the finish in details is much better. The milled holes (or is it in the casting?) are more rounded. The overall shape is just better finished than what was on my guitar. Straight fit. No need for adjustment or anything. The kit includes also the two studs, but I didn’t use those as the stop bar fit straight in.
Very happy with this purchase.
