I bought both this pickup and the 498T for neck and bridge positions respectively. They are the pickups currently used in Gibson's Les Paul Customs so seemed a logical choice in deciding to upgrade my Epiphone Les Paul Custom.
I also like that they offer a PAF-like sound but with more warmth due to the extra midrange. Additionally they can be adapted for coil tapping unlike the 57 classics
The pickups come in a very tasteful perspex box and a diagram with wiring instructions is included
I bought this pickup in lieu of a Seymour Duncan antiquity for my Epiphone Custom Pro Les Paul and I love it.
It sounds amazing, it feels great, it coil-taps wonderfully, pulls off a brilliant phase shift with a 490T. It's a Gibson pickup, you know exactly what you are in for.
I bought this pickup together with 489 T to upgrade my Epi Sheraton II.Finaly I found the sound that I looking for.Sparking and balanced rich tone.No irritating frequency peaks. I can play hours and hours and not getting tired.Realy great sound.Coil taping also gives wonderful sound to.I?m very satisfied.
I changed my pickups on my Epiphone Lucille for the 490R GH +490T GH Gibson units and was blown away by the improvement in sound.
Clear lows and mids with no break up and a classic rock sound that is instantly recognizable as the 'Gibson' sound.
For anyone with an Epiphone with less than sparkling pickups this is a 'no brainer' upgrade that gives instant results.
