Nothing to complain here, vintage styling and does what it's supposed. Doesn't have the grooves on the underside to guide your strings which I've seen some newer versions have, but doesn't really matter as the strings stay in place without problems anyway.
Fender gets a lot of things right but putting plastic string retainers on some of their basses isn't great. Luckily that's a quick fix. This metal one is a proper replacement. It's also less shiny than the plastic one.
Purchased this a while back, just got around to installing it.
The existing string guide on one of my P Basses was a bit tatty and discoloured so I bought this as a direct replacement. Strings sit in it perfectly and it looks, well, not tatty and discoloured anymore :)
this one doesn't have the groves to hold the strings better, but it is fine. i put this on a fender player precision bass 4 string to guide the a string and it works really well.
...if you are gonna fiddle about with adding on/ or replacing any bass parts....I would suggest to go with the ORIGINAL replacement parts if possible....This Fender String Guide was a good choice....keeps the strings in place and it looks wonderful as a replacement for my nose-ring too ! (Hardee-har-har!)
This is a reproduction of the old circular style bass string retainer. This item has been fitted on thousands of instruments over the years, and continues to provide the required downwards pressure on the D and G strings.
