Bought this to replace one I broke in a mates guitar during a recording session. Absolutely fantastic sound for downtuned 8 string stuff. Super tight and very meaty sounding (used it in a Agile Intrepid 8 string) cleans are nice and glassy too especially if you run it at 18 volts (google "EMG 18V mod") this also adds headroom for the distorted stuff.
EMG's seem to get quite a bit of hate from the extended range guitar community but I don't really understand why. Low noise, wide frequency response, very fast responding pickup wth lots of clarity. Exactly what you need when you're riffing down in the lower registers!
The EMG 808 active pickup is great replacment for every stock 8 stringer humbucker bar. It gives you a lot more gain, and edgy rich distroted sound, great for rock and (mostly) metal riffs. The package contain everything what you need to put it into your guitar. A very interesting solution is the use of cables with small plugs (such as. the radiators in desktop computers) for connecting the entire system without soldering. If you new 8 string guitar has stock pickups, or you are simply not satisfied with how they sound, the EMG 808 is for you!
