I bought a set of EMG 40HZ for a bass and since I didn't wanted to bother with all of the soldering I decided to go with EMG's solderless install (40HZ didn't included any of the quick install components, unlike active EMG pickups).
The whole idea with a solderless install is really great. It took me less than 15 minutes to get everything working.
Default connectors are wired for serial humbucker connection. But with spare EMG connector cable and 2-pin connectors you can easily change the connection type (I got 2 spare cables with my pickups that was used for split-coil hum-cancelling connection type).
Wiring kit is also compatible with any other passive pickups. The only thing you need to get it working is connecting 2-pin connector to the pickup cable instead of soldering it.
The only downside of the Wiring Kit I got, was the wrong wiring on one of the pickup cables. It took me a while until I finally measured pickup resistance on the connection cable and understood that 2 wires on the connector were out of place and pickup was working in single coil mode as a result. Fortunately it wasn't too hard to switch a few wires and get a perfectly working humbucker in the end.
I think this was just an isolated error, but in case anyone got some volume problems - check cable wiring first.
Bought this to rewire 2 Ltd guitars I bought years ago that some gorillas had seemed to rewire themselves. One had the quick connect on the pickups themselves so used the included cables. Managed to put Dupont connectors on the others and it worked well. All the components in the kit were good quality and went together easily.
I purchased a set of EMG PHZ pickups, however I found the included cable a little bit short to reach from the base of the pickup to the volume/tone controls (weird!). Anyway, I bought this and it came with absolutely everything I needed to complete the installation. Very happy and I would recommend to anyone who encounters a similar issue.
