Bridge replacement in a HSH Ibanez. This is loud! My amp settings are normally set to break up when I dig in but this was overdriving out of the gate. A huge improvement over the stock pickups for power.
The sound is voiced towards to rock and metal. The bass is tight, not flubby which is good for crisp rhythm tones. Great sustain too. To be honest I expected
more response from harmonics and it feels a little flatter than I expected on the high notes. I think I'll have to experiment more with my settings to get the best tones out of it.
Overall a decent choice for a replacement of stock bridge pickups, but I would check alternatives to get the right voicing you are looking for. Oh, and, did I say it was loud!
If you know anything about high octane guitars you will know that Dimarzio Evolution pickups are fitted to Ibanez Jems. These are the signature guitars of virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai who is known for his hifi distorted sound. If you are a Vai fan you will know that he actually uses a widely eclectic range of tones from distorted Metal shred to incredible Stratty clean sounds all produced by the Evolution set of pickups. When teamed up with the matching neck and middle pickups I don’t think there is a genre of music that could not be catered for. The 4 conductor setup allows for a huge variety of wiring configurations when used with a super switch. Perhaps a Schaller S for Ibanez Jem switching but using an M will give you endless options ( providing you can get your head around how it works!). I highly recommend these pickups.
I use this pick-up in a Les Paul (with a Floyd Rose) through a JCM800 and it gives me the "brown sound" like no other pick-up I've ever tried!! I love Steve Vai, but I couldn't care less if this was his product or not!! This is a must have in at least one of your twangers!
I had read bad reviews before buying it, saying it was "way too bright", but in my opinion it all comes down to which guitar you have!
Do you have a very bright sounding guitar? Forget about this one! You'll be disappointed and will probably write a bad review for being a dumbass.
Do you have a more "mid-sounding" or dark sounding guitar made outta for instance mahogany or basswood and looking for a pick-up with massive output without losing character? BUY THIS ONE!
I've installed Evolution set on my ESP M-II instead of EMGs.
Awesome alive bright sound for metal and alternative music. On coil-split has "Glass" sounds effect similar to classical Fender Stratocaster.
